As I may have mentioned a few times in the past, my dark fantasy novel Blackspire was accepted by Owl Hollow Press back in 2018. While we were originally looking at a release date in the fall of 2019, a series of circumstances conspired to push the release back. It’s been a long journey, and honestly it feels like a lifetime ago that the book was originally accepted!
But after going through the editing process last month, I’m happy to say that we’re finally moving full steam ahead for final publication! Blackspire is set to debut on December 8 of this year, and I couldn’t be more excited to finally share this novel with the world. Finishing Blackspire was the hardest thing I’ve ever done as a writer. I talked about some of those struggles on my old website (some of which are recounted in the Just Write Something collection), but I’ll probably be going back to share some of those experiences in greater detail over the next few months as we approach the final release date.
More importantly, though, Owl Hollow Press recently revealed the cover art for Blackspire and I couldn’t be happier with it. Created by Donn Marlou Ramirez, it’s a very evocative image that captures the darkness and mystery of Blackspire quite effectively. I must confess that I was a bit worried about how the cover would turn out because the story doesn’t lend itself very well to traditional fantasy artwork (one of the characters shovels shit for a living; hard to make that look epic!).
Here’s the cover in all its glory!
